A Message From the Founder

When I was a kid, my dad took me to exotic places like Labrador, Alaska and the Northwest Territories in pursuit of brook trout, silver salmon and arctic char with the fly rod. They were always wonderful adventures. As I grew, I traded my exotic fly-fishing travel time for building businesses and following my kids to sports games. Most of my fishing was limited to crowded Pennsylvania trout streams.

On a trip in 1987, I sat down in a quiet moment to make notes to myself about the "ideal" fly-fishing trip. I decided it would be (1) close to home (no more than 2-3 hours by car), (2) it would not be crowded, (3) it would be a world-class fly-fishing experience, and (4) the trip could be short (a weekend).

In 1996, I left the manufacturing world in pursuit of a life-long dream - to conserve blue-ribbon trout streams in my native region of central Pennsylvania. I spent many years building relationships with private stream owners in the Mecca of Fly-Fishermen - Spruce Creek, Pennsylvania -- and a handful of Heritage Founders helped me launch Spring Ridge Club with three miles of private waters.

Since then, we have been joined by over one hundred conservation-minded fly-fishing families, which have allowed the Club to expand to over thirty miles on twelve different streams across Pennsylvania. Many of our new locations are within an easy drive from major metropolitan areas like New York City, Philadelphia, D.C., Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Erie.

Join us as we not only take a leadership role in the conservation of Pennsylvania's magnificent trout streams, but also as we continue to grow the most unique private fly-fishing club in the world. If you would like to read more about Donny's thoughts and the history of the Club, read "A Passion to Preserve".
